April McCoy was born May 22,1993 in Dallas, Texas. She started playing golf when she was nine years old with her father and brother. She developed her game through the Leonard Jones Program and Gladys Lee’s Roaring Lambs. She played throughout the United States with US Kids Golf, Texas Jr Golf and American Jr Golf Association tours. She was the class of 2011 #1 ranked senior in Texas and #31 in the nation. She was the first African American woman to receive a full-athletic scholarship to Texas Christian University. McCoy played at TCU for four years where she had one win at the Windy City Collegiate Classic and her best career score (69) in her 2012-2013 season. She graduated in 2015 with a Bachelors in Criminal Justice. After graduation McCoy played one professional tournament but retired from golf in 2016 to pursue a career in Criminal Justice. Although she loves working with juveniles, in 2020 she decided to pursue professional golf again. With her renewed her love for the game she is now playing golf full-time and working toward gaining status on the LPGA Tour. McCoy is an example for minority girls and boys of how hard work and discipline can bring success.
